A proclamation sets the design for the 1980 silver $1 coin, featuring a polar bear on an ice floe, effective January 1, 1980 Gorgeous 1980 Silver Dollar in mint condition. This coin is made of 50% silver and has .3750 oz. of pure silver. This coin comes encapsulated and in the original black leatherette case. It was released and sold out at the original selling price of $22.00 each plus taxes back in 1980. The design on this coin shows a polar bear in the Artic to commemmorate the centenary of the transfer of the Arctic Islands from the British Government to the Government of the Dominion of Canada.
